85-minute hands-on workshop
Activating formats are crucial when teaching another subject in English. Because pupils are actively involved, the content sticks in a stronger way. Moreover, they have to use English to work and learn together. In this workshop, some no-tech activating formats can be
(re-)discovered for use in CLIL, either “soft” (just a topic in the English lessons) or “hard” (whole subject).

Mario Lecluyze is an educational adviser for EFL and CLIL within the umbrella organisation for Catholic schools in Flanders. Currently, he also works as a teacher trainer at University College VIVES in Torhout. He lectures about EFL methodology and CLIL there. He is also a BELTA board member.
CLIL is becoming more and more popular in Flanders. Activating formats are a "brain friendly" way to get pupils working together on both the content and the language.
By participating in and reflecting on a number of no-tech activating formats, linked to different subjects, I hope the participants will (re-)discover their usefulness, both for English and CLIL-lessons.
