After getting a degree in English language and literature from KULeuven – and a teaching certificate thrown in for good measure – Joris decamped to Korea where he taught at Kyung Hee University’s Teacher Training Department for 7 years. Having come to grips with what teaching actually implies, he decided to start all over and returned to Belgium where he was a private language teacher for two years in private companies in and around Brussels. He was then invited to join Oxford University Press as a consultant, covering territories as far apart as the Benelux, Scandinavia, the Baltic States and (occasionally) Switzerland. However, after another seven years of life in the fast lane, the siren’s call of the class room could no longer be resisted and he returned to Brussels to teach in a brightly coloured secondary school where teaching once more became a challenge.
In 2007 he joined Groep T – University College Leuven (now part of the newly established UC Leuven-Limburg) as a teacher trainer for English. Over the years he has both attended and given many conferences and workshops, not necessarily about teaching English, but definitely about fun things.
